Tsunami Mapper is a google maps application which uses the elevation service to show areas that are likely to be affected by a tsunami.
To simulate a tsunami, complete the following steps: 1). Either enter the location of your city into the Location box or use the google maps controls to navigate around the world. 2). Select the intensity of the Tsunami according to the Papadopoulos-Imamura scale. 3). Click the cross icon in the sea at the tsunami starting point and then click again in the tsunami direction. The tsunami map will start from the first location. Once the map is drawn you can zoom in and out to see if a given street or house is underwater or not. Hints: * Don't start your tsunami on land, lakes or rivers. Tsunami mapper will always try to find a starting point but its better to start from the ocean. * Don't start your tsunami too far from the beach. Tsunami mapper can only flood areas within the specified range. * Review the gallery page for some example tsunami maps. |
